Beautiful note cubes made from 75% elephant dung and 25% recycled paper – yes really (and no, they have absolutely no scent at all!)

Inside each note cube is approximately 100 differently coloured pages which are easy to tear out and can be written on with the pen of your choice. Only natural dyes are used and the paper is acid-free.

How is Elephant Dung Paper made?

1. Elephants eat coconuts, jak leaves or Kithul Bark and the initial pulping is done in their stomach. An adult Elephant eats upto 180kg per day and drops dung 16 times a day!

2. The Elephant dung is collected and sun dried.

3. The dung is boiled with a natural disinfectant (Margosa Leaves)

4. The dung is then pulped to perfection. Each 10kg of dung produces approximately 120 sheets of paper (90cm x 65cm). Colours are added at this stage.

5. The pulp is hand-lifted from a paper making vat to a couching table in the form of a thin sheet of pulp.

6. Skilled paper artisans make beautiful stationary to help raise funds in support of Elephant Conservation. Eco Maximus also helps to alleviate a raging human-elephant conflict in Sri Lanka by setting up a paper industry in villages that border jungles populated with Elephants - helping to build positive relationships.

All the notecubes are Fair Trade and handmade by skilled artisans at the Maximus Elephant Conservation Trust in Sri Lanka who work tirelessly to research, protect and support Elephants.
